The Manuscripts and Early Printed Books of the Hart Collection at Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery
The Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, while unprepossessing, is one of the best collections in England. With both range and depth (Japanese woodcut prints, musical instruments, taxidermy, technology, paintings, ceramics, coins, books, manuscripts as well as many other interesting artefacts). This museum can truly be considered the British Museum of the north and often loans portions of its collection to American institutions and universities as well as the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The Hart Collection includes a large and extremely special group of manuscripts and early printed books which is rarely used by the academic community.
